Nyimbozakatoliki.co.ke is a Kikuyu Catholic lyrics website that enlists both Mitha Mugikuyu and modern Kikuyu catholic songs.
The genesis of this website is a story.
Sometimes back in 2021, I attended a wake (maombolezi) ceremony where a YCA friend had lost his dad.
I had been sent by my YCA parishioners to represent them.
In such ceremonies, one is supposed to stand, greet people, say their name and where they come from.
You are then supposed to present a song or Bible verse to condole with the family.
I really wanted to sing a song.
Kikuyu funeral songs hit differently. They console and really bring out the mood of such a wake.
I wanted to present the song ‘Maitu Maria thingi ngumie‘
I however did not know the words.
Just before I stood, I searched on Google Playstore for a Mitha Mugikuyu app.
There was none.
I searched for the lyrics of the song.
They were nowhere to be found.
I ended up not singing
I made a mental note to create an online resource that would help people access lyrics of their favourite Mitha mugikuyu and other modern
popular Catholic Kikuyu songs.
I ended up creating this website.
